Joy & John arrived in the U.K in 1953 from Kenya, the year of Roses birth. There were no friends or family so this tight little unit eventually becoming 5 children forged new lives together. Life in the 50's for a mixed race family was interesting to say the least! Thanks to our parents our horizons were neverending we were taught to deal with whatever we encountered and become strong women&men proud of our heritage&determined to suceed in whatever we chose for our future.Primary school where we were the only pupils of colour was a happy place. Rose was a busy deligent, friendly child, her ability to chat a lot led to many exclusions to the stage from the dining table.Rose loved all sports, swimming, ballet dancing&the brownies earning 2 armfulls of badges. Grammer School again the only non white pupils brought out the traits that we love & know about Rose. Her quiet intellectual moral courage & kindness led to her appointment as Head Girl in her peer group of 90 pupils- true diversity. When Rose chose medicine as her future being a woman&one of colour presented many challenges. There was no family history of medicine or any peer group in the family but Rose had made her choice. At the dining table she would regale us with tales of her cadavar, primary school dining repeated. With her dogged determination positive attitude & her ability to be happy and to do her best led to her becoming the medic she wanted to be. Rose volunteered with the W.H.O becoming part of the team that eradicated smallpox shortly after qualification an example of her quiet humanity. Rose worked and played hard, her love of music took her to Hyde Park with the Stones Isle of Wight festival, clubs and more she was also a medic at Silverstone race circuit Rose was a multifaceted complex loving person. Roses love for Anthony,Alex,Arlo and Cobi fulfilled Roses love of life and her hopes for the future. We have been blessed to have Rose in our lives and she has left her mark on all of us. We will all miss her very much..
